Guidelines for CCTP Unit Writers/Editors

Participant Roles:

• Unit Writers: Unit Writers are responsible to write and assemble components of a complete unit from the CCTP Task List. The CCTP staff will take materials submitted by the Unit Writer and convert them to World Wide Web pages. Unit Writers will be clearly acknowledged in the CCTP for their efforts. [Example Unit]

• Section Editors: Editors will be in charge of a set of task units. Editors will help identify unit writers and write one of the units in their section. A primary function of Editors will be to coordinate the unit writing within their section by working with unit writers to ensure the materials for the individual units work well together.
  

Timeline:

We would like to have all remain units completed by May 29, 1998 if possible.

Please send an email (or letter) with the following information:

In the Subject area of the message write: CCTP Writer/Editor Application

In the message include:

• Full Name

• Email (and URL if you have one)

• Please describe your background in GIS (education, experience using GIS and related technologies), teaching, curriculum development, and anything else that you feel will help us select writers and assign units.
  
• Also please identify which Unit(s) you would like to write, Unit(s) that you would be willing to write if the others are taken, and any Section(s) you are willing to edit. [Unit List]

Specific Instructions for Unit Writers and Section Editors

Format for Submitting Units Materials:

At this point in the project, units should by sent directly to Violet Gray. Once we have edited the document and posted it in Web format, we will ask the Section Editor for additional editorial input. Materials should be submitted in the following formats:

Text:
All unit text should be converted to simple text format (ASCII) and sent on a 3.5" floppy disk to the Web Site Manager, Violet Gray. Contact Violet about other submission options such as ftp. Authors who are proficient in HTML writing are welcome to submit materials in that form.

Graphics and Images:
These items can be submitted in hardcopy or digital format although digital graphics are preferred. Hardcopy materials can be sent with the disk containing the unit text. Digital file should be included on the floppy disk containing the unit text. Digital figures and other graphics should be sent in GIF format. Digital images should be sent in JPEG format. Clearly identify in the unit text where graphics and images should be linked and provide the name of the figure or the digital file. Send these to the Web Site Manager, Violet Gray. Contact Violet for any questions related to digital file formats.
